Entering Kazakhstan
Kazakhstan can be entered or left through crossing points on the state border that are open for international and passenger communication. Persons crossing must possess valid passports or substitute documents and visas of Kazakhstan.
The actual purpose of the visit of a foreign citizen must comply with the purposes indicated on the visa, since there are certain limitations depending on the visa type. For example, foreign citizens staying in Kazakhstan privately or on a business trip, and those staying for study or as tourists, cannot engage in activities that are not related to the purpose of visit indicated on the visa (for instance, they cannot be employed or conduct business in the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan).
Unlicensed recruitment of foreign workers is prohibited, as is any labour activity by foreigners without the required permits who are staying temporarily in Kazakhstan.
Visas are issued by the Foreign Ministry of Kazakhstan, consular departments of the Ministry abroad or specially authorized state bodies of Kazakhstan.
Investor’s Visa.
CEOs of prominent foreign companies around the world or representatives of the management of these companies who arrive or stay in Kazakhstan for business purposes and are actually participating in investment in the economy of the country are eligible for an investor’s visa. Visas of this type are issued by the Foreign Ministry of Kazakhstan, its foreign establishment and consular departments on application by large foreign companies:
Single-entry investor’s visas for a period of up to three months are issued on the day of application without an invitation;
CEOs and representatives of the management of large foreign companies which carry out economic activities in Kazakhstan, along with their families, may obtain multiple investor’s visas for a period of up to one year, if agreed by the Foreign Ministry of Kazakhstan;
CEOs of legal entities, representative offices and branches of large foreign companies, which are legally registered in Kazakhstan, along with their families, may obtain multiple investor’s visas for a period of up to two years, if agreed by the Foreign Ministry of Kazakhstan;
Citizens of third countries transiting Kazakhstan, or having a representative office in the country where a foreign establishment of the Foreign Ministry operates, are eligible to investor’s visas only if they are CEOs of major trans-national companies possessing documents confirming their position with the companies. An investor’s visa can be executed as an entry/exit visa or an exit visa.
Business Visa
Business visas may be issued to foreign citizens and stateless persons arriving or staying in Kazakhstan for business purposes (participation in negotiations of a purely business or commercial nature, meetings, symposia, conferences, tenders, contract signature ceremonies, setting up joint ventures, studying the Kazakhstani market, participating in auctions, fairs and exhibitions, effecting trade transactions and international shipments, and performing consultancy and auditing services if relevant permits are available, issued on the basis of applications by private organizations, companies, firms and other legal entities registered in Kazakhstan).
Foreign nationals are also eligible, if they are employees of major foreign companies not based in Kazakhstan, sent on assignment to representative offices, branches or legal entities set up by those companies in the territory of Kazakhstan.
If primary visas have not been issued by consular departments of the Foreign Ministry of Kazakhstan, then the Interior Departments of Astana, Almaty and regions of the country can issue exit business visas for a period of up to 15 days without the right to prolongation.
The Government of the Republic of
Kazakhstan has decided to disaffirm the actual expanses for visas issue to the
citizens of Japan. The aforementioned decision was adopted in the purposes of
establishment of favorable conditions for the development of mutual relations
between the Republic of Kazakhstan and Japan, as well as improvement of visa
procedures for citizens of Japan, who intends to visit Kazakhstan
